How does it work?
Mayfield has space for hire for creative projects, offers classes and group activities, sells really lovely things, screens films and exhibits the work of artists.
You can reserve a personal workspace, join a class, join Cinema Mayfield and come to a film, or attend one of our exhibitions or events at Mayfield Gallery on Victoria Street.
Where did the idea for Mayfield come from?
Mayfield grew out of the idea that you only need twenty seconds to be inspired to do the things you’ve always wanted to do.
Seeking a place where we could escape and have the space we needed to practice making things (out of textiles, ceramics, wood and more!) we met lots of people who just want to have a go at something new and who could probably benefit from taking some time out too. And others who knew what they were doing and wanted to keep doing it but couldn’t afford a full time studio.
Welcome to Mayfield! A space where you can pursue your interest without the expectation of expensive instruction or long term financial commitment. We offer you the activities and interests that have inspired us. We hope that you will bring something new to Mayfield and share it with us too.
How much does the Friday movie night cost?
To see a film at Cinema Mayfield you need to contribute $15 to the screening rights for the film you intend to see. This automatically gives you membership of our film society and gives you access to additional events we plan to hold through the year!
Can I request a movie for movie nights?
Sure can! Just get in touch with us through the contacts page.
If I bring my own friend to the movie nights, do they have to be a member of the Film Society too?
Because our Cinema is so tiny (16 seats) we need everyone to contibute toward the screening rights of the film. Without that we can’t afford to screen our films.
Do you have conditions for people using Studio space?
If you’re using our equipment, you’ll have to sign a form so we know you’re familiar with it. Alternatively, enrol in a class and make some friends!
How much does booking an individual space cost?
Ceramics or dry room (includes sewing etc) studio use: $30 per half day
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy.
How do I book a workspace in the Ceramics Studio?
You can book a studio workspace online.
How many spots are available in the ceramics studio?
5 workbenches — each with an allocated potter’s wheel.
What can I do in your dry room?
We have three sewing machines, a high and generous work bench to create on which is flooded with natural light.
Do I need my own tools and materials to work in the studio?
You’re welcome to bring your own materials. We have some tools available but you can also purchase your own clay and tools here.
Does the studio only cater for ceramics?
The Wet Room is fully equipped for ceramics but you can reserve a workbench to do anything that requires water. Get in touch or drop in and see if you feel the space would be right for you.
