Join us for the Spirit Festival - July 7th, 2024

For Japanese children New Years Day is the most joyous day of the year. But this New Years Day Japan was hit by a massive earthquake. 75, 000 houses collapsed, 19,000 houses are still without water, and many children lost their lives or became orphans.

Join Keiko Fujiwara and her friends at Mayfield Street to support the children of the Japanese earthquake. Bring your own children to experience some aspects of Japanese culture that they will enjoy and help us send our love and support to the people of Japan.

Adults and accompanied children can enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and take home your own Japanese tea bowl made right here at Mayfield Street!

Children can learn Origami, Ink Painting, and Calligraphy; Make and eat Japanese sweet dumplings; Make a Tanabata wish on bamboo ; Try some traditional Japanese kimonos; and listen to the tale of Altair and Vega.

Japanese harp music will play throughout the day. Additional tea bowls, edibles, and story books will be available to purchase. There will also be a second hand clothing sale.
